Episode 60 - Hilary Mason, Machine Learning Research in Action
I caught up with Hilary Mason, GM of Machine Learning at Cloudera and former founder of Fast Forward Labs. We cover how to:
- Generate ideas for Machine Learning Research
- Hold a good brainstorm
- Break into tech as a Data Scientist
- Give an engaging and successful tech talk
I also asked Hilary about the evolving role of Machine Learning and Data Science, and what she wants to build in the future!

Checklist for Giving Tech Talks
I wanted to write out some of the bullet points that I took away from talking to Hilary about giving presentations and talks:
Who is the audience?
What do they know?
What are they interested in?
What does a win look like for the event organizer?
Think about a continuous narrative to keep attention.
Repeat key ideas and takaways
Have fun! Include jokes to self, be yourself, show your excitement of the topic
Make it accessible
